How to choose a fire extinguisher?
Make sure it has the "ULC" logo from the Underwriters' Laboratories of Canada
Choose a multi-purpose powder extinguisher marked "ABC
Choose an extinguisher with a minimum rating of 2A 10B C on the label
Fires to be extinguished
A: Ordinary fuel fires, such as wood, paper and plastic.
B: Flammable liquid fires, such as gasoline, grease, oil paint and flammable gases.
C: Fire from electrical wiring or appliances.
To ensure that your fire extinguisher is working properly, it is important to inspect it every month.
What to check?
Make sure that the seals and handling indicators are in good condition and are not missing.
Make sure that there are no signs of degradation, corrosion, leakage or obstruction of the outlet jets.
Ensure that the pressure indicated by the pressure gauges is normal.
Make sure that the due date for the next inspection by a specialist has not expired.
How to use your fire extinguisher?
- Pull the pin
- Aim downwards
- Press the handle
- Sweep from side to side, keeping the nozzle at the base of the flames
